Newcastle United are plotting a bid to sign Coventry City midfielder Tom Bayliss, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that Leeds United and Middlesbrough also want to sign the 20-year-old, who has been valued at £500,000.

It is understood that Bayliss would be a deemed as a squad player next season if he was to head to Tyneside amid doubts surrounding the futures of Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden.

Good move for Newcastle?

Bayliss has had a decent season with Coventry.

The England Under-19 international has made 41 appearances in all competitions for the League One club while scoring three goals and supplying three assists in the process.

Coventry have a very strong youth academy with players like James Maddison and Callum Wilson bursting onto the scenes at the Midlands club in the last few years.

Bayliss has the potential to become a good player and for £500,000, Newcastle might as well sign the young central midfielder.

Likely to happen?

Coventry are not a team that are blessed financially so they are more than likely going to accept fairly low offers for Bayliss in comparison to what clubs in the Premier League and top-end of the Championship can spend.

It would not be a shock to see him move on in the summer and Newcastle is very much a likely place for him to go.

However if he wants first team football then joining Leeds or Middlesbrough might be better for him.
