Love him or loathe him, you have to admit that Alfredo Morelos is some player.

The Colombian has hit 29 goals for Rangers this season, and has been far and away the most dangerous hitman in Scotland.

His natural finishing ability is pretty much unparalleled north of the border, and there is certainly an argument to be made for him making a move to a bigger, more competitive league during the current transfer window.

As if his status as a lethal predator wasn’t already firmly assured, it has emerged, as reported by the Daily Record, that he has reached the career milestone of 100 goals quicker than some of the biggest names in the modern game.

According to the report, the 22-year-old has reached his century in just 178 matches, starting 167 of them.

By comparison, at the same age Morelos is at now, Thierry Henry had just 57 goals, Alan Shearer had 65, and even Ballon d’Or winning leviathan Cristiano Ronaldo only had 97.

The obvious argument is that those players were playing in more competitive leagues, but nonetheless, it puts into perspective just how good Morelos is – and how good he could be.

Anybody who has even the faintest clue about Scottish football will know, however, that the South American’s goalscoring record is only half the story.

As well as his glut of goals, he has also received a ridiculous amount of red cards and suspensions this season.

It’s an obvious thing to say, but Morelos could be as good as Pele for all it matters when he’s sat watching from the stands with the rest of the Ibrox faithful.

His disciplinary record needs to be improved, and quickly.

Until it is, all the glittering records and jaw-dropping goalscoring stats in the world are simply papering over the cracks of a much deeper issue.
