It would take a fairly stunning turn of events for Lee Wallace to stay at Rangers now.

The full-back is out of contract in the summer, and looks fairly nailed on to leave Ibrox after having made just three appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side this season.

There are already a host of clubs being linked with making a move for him, with the Daily Record suggesting yesterday that Dundee United are keen on the 31-year-old.

Whether that comes off remains to be seen, of course, but the latest comments from Gers legend Kenny Miller would suggest that the Light Blues might be making a mistake by letting him go.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, Miller said: “The history behind why he has not played and why he is leaving Rangers, that is there for all to see

“But he, as I have said all along if you have got James Tavernier on one side and Lee Wallace on the other, Lee is as equally a threat on the left-hand side.

“It’s been a problem position for the team all year long whether it be (Borna) Barisic, who again seems to have fallen out of favour, Andy Halliday, who is not a left-back but has filled in very, very well.

“What Lee does is he is one of those players that makes other people better and that’s the thing. That team has missed him this year.”

Wallace has not been a regular by any stretch of the imagination this season, but the way Miller is talking makes you wonder why.

At 31, he still has a lot to give for a side, and as the veteran striker has pointed out, left-back has been a problem position for the Gers this year.

Whatever happens this summer, you would be surprised if Gerrard didn’t try to sign a new option in that area, which is fine, except for the fact that he appears to be letting a perfectly decent one walk away for free.

Wallace is going, and there seems to be little that will change that at this point, but perhaps, as Miller implies, Rangers are making a mistake in letting him do so.
