Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor will be missing for the first game of the club’s Premiership campaign next season after picking up a three game ban for violent conduct.

The Gers’ shot stopper received his marching orders against Hibernian, where he kicked out at one of the Hibs stars, and as confirmed in a list of suspensions from the Scottish FA will miss both the Old Firm clash against Celtic and their final game versus Kilmarnock.

However, having already been handed a retrospective ban for violent conduct earlier in the season, his ban has been extended to three games, meaning he will not be available for when the Light Blues kick off their domestic campaign after the summer.

Opinion

McGregor is very much a hot head and it has got him into the trouble he deserves. It was a petulant kick out and while he might miss two dead rubbers against Celtic – although there is Glasgow pride to be played for – and Killie, he will not be there to help his side get off to the perfect start next season. With Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick looking likely to depart, it seems as though the Scottish veteran will be facing new competition for his place between the sticks and he has handed his rival the perfect opportunity to stake their claim for a starting XI spot. He might have been an excellent shot stopper this season but his stupidity has let him down, not unlike a certain hot head at the other end of the pitch. If he cannot cool his temper, then maybe this new goalkeeper will be the Rangers regular.
