Manchester United have tabled a bid worth over £35.4million in an effort to sign ex-Celtic centre-forward Moussa Dembele from Lyon, according to Goal.

The French news outlet claims that the 22-year-old is attracting interest from several sides in the Premier League, but it is United who have made the first move by making an opening offer.

It is understood that Old Trafford legend Eric Cantona is a fan of Dembele and is pushing for the Red Devils to sign him up in the summer transfer window.

Good move for Manchester United?

Dembele has been in red-hot form since joining Lyon from Celtic last summer.

He has scored 20 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions for the French club, proving that he has been able to make the step up form the Scottish Premiership to one of the better European leagues.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to completely revamp his squad in the summer transfer window and Dembele is someone who is young, in great form and could prove to be great competition for the strikers United already have.

The France Under-21 international has a lot of experience for his age by playing a lot of top-flight football, scoring a lot of goals and most importantly, winning trophies.

Likely to happen?

It remains to be seen if Lyon accept Man United’s opening bid, but the chances are that the Premier League club will have their offer rejected.

Dembele only signed for them last year and has another four years remaining on his contract with the Ligue 1 side.

They are under no pressure to sell and it could take a lot more money to buy him.
