Manchester United are keen on Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, and if they landed him the breakthrough star would be the sign of new things to come at Old Trafford.

Longstaff broke into the newcastle first-team this season and played so well he had eight consecutive starts before breaking down with injury.

At such a young age, he showed great levels of maturity.

He would be a smart addition for Manchester United and would provide food for thought for the club’s stars.

The centre midfielder fits the mould at United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is clearly a big believer in youth having brought in a number of academy graduates with the likes of Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes being used. And Longstaff would add to the energetic and youthful style that the United boss is hoping to implement next season.

Longstaff would arrive with fire in his belly and this is something some of United’s bigger players have really lacked.  He would have a huge point to prove and with that in mind, he could really surprise a few.

The young starlet has the potential to grow into an established midfielder whose value could grow massively in the future. United should invade the Magpies for one of their prized assets as they continue their rebuild.

Three years remain on Longstaff’s current Newcastle deal so the Red Devils would need to be prepared to pay a large fee to prise the midfielder away from the North East – Newcastle will want to keep hold of a player full of passion and promise.
