Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has slammed Patrick Bamford for his “daft” antics in Leeds United’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Bamford, 25, has since been charged with the successful deception of a match official after he managed to get Anwar El-Ghazi sent off in the hotly-contested fixture at Elland Road.

The former Middlesbrough striker hit the deck clutching his face, despite no contact being made by the on-loan Aston Villa winger.

El-Ghazi’s red card has since been rescinded and MacAnthony has shown his displeasure towards Bamford’s attitude.

He was however impressed by Marcelo Bielsa’s sportsmanship during the game.

“Didn’t see the game but loved the Leeds manager’s class allowing that goal. Proper manager. Not enough of them in our leagues,” said MacAnthony via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday.

“Daft from Bamford who could miss plays offs from that play acting. Play offs will be fun.”

OPINION

Leeds’ draw with Aston Villa is one that will go down in history for many of reasons. Not only was it a gripping 90 minutes of football being played between two contenders for promotion via the play-offs, but it was also a proper match of football. Tackles were flying in, players were on the limit physically and there were also moments of class by players on both sides. However Mateusz Klich’s decision to score a goal while a Villa player was injured will more than likely be the main reason that the game will be remembered – and the chaos that went on after. In the scuffle that broke out, Bamford did his best attempt to win an Oscar by pretending that El-Ghazi hit him in the face. Then Bielsa decided to tell his players to let Villa score to bring themselves back on level terms. It was great sportsmanship by Bielsa. No one outside of Aston Villa will probably have criticised him if he didn’t do it because he simply didn’t have to. Fair play to him, but as for Bamford, he deserves the two-match ban that is likely going to come his way.
