OPINION
Well, that was dramatic. In an absolutely enthralling game, where former manager Rafa Benitez almost came back to haunt Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp’s side found another late goal to keep their title charge running until the final day of the season.
It took three goals to do the job at St James’ Park, with the final one coming from substitute Divock Origi, but Daniel Sturridge failed to get on the score sheet again and Liverpool fans weren’t impressed.
Roberto Firmino was ruled out of the game so it wasn’t the usual front three on Saturday evening, and that meant another chance for Sturridge.
But he hasn’t looked right up top for Liverpool all season and he was a let down again on Saturday. It perhaps wasn’t entirely his fault. Liverpool didn’t play to his strengths and he didn’t get the service that he thrives off.
But therein lies the problem for Liverpool and Sturridge. He’s just not their sort of player and he missed a glorious chance in the second-half that could have cost them the title.
As it was, Origi was on hand to save his blushes with a goal supplied by the other substitute Xherdan Shaqiri, and that’s put all the pressure back on Man City.
Here are the best reactions to Sturridge’s display against Newcastle:
I'd keep Big Div ….. he's a useful option. But Sturridge & Lovren surely have to leave in the summer!? We're such a good team …. just need top additions so players can be rotated without a massive drop in quality

Great great win, VVD telling big Shaq to take the free kick was also massive and hardly seen. Still see no reason why Sturridge is still playing for us, he's lost his game and is playing in the hole which doesn't help us or him #LFC

Lovren and Sturridge should be the first two to be binned a week on Monday. Not sure either would cut it in the Championship. https://t.co/5LwXXeQbkN

Daniel Sturridge is no longer fit to wear the shirt. He ruined every move forward when he touched the ball. Good service over the years, thanks for the memories, but goodbye. #NEWLIV #lfc
