Leeds United will not sign Harry Wilson from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to Mirror reporter David Anderson.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that Wilson, 22, has his sights set on playing top-flight football next season after a successful loan spell with Derby County in the Championship.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon claimed in April that Leeds have a “live interest” in Wilson, but it appears as though the Yorkshire club are going to be let down in the hunt to sign the impressive Wales international this summer after missing out on promotion.

OPINION

Leeds have no chance of signing Wilson this summer after losing in the play-offs to him and his Derby team-mates. According to Sky Sports, Premier League runners-up Liverpool want £25million for the 22-year-old, and Leeds probably couldn’t even afford half of that based on Andrea Radrizzani’s latest comments about this summer’s transfer window. And even if they could afford that, Wilson seems to have no intentions of returning to the Championship and someone like Newcastle or Southampton is bound to bag him this summer. He played brilliantly for Derby this season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions as the Rams reached sixth in the table before losing the play-off final to Aston Villa. He’s too good for the second-tier now and Marcelo Bielsa probably realises that. It will be interesting to see who the Whites will go after. They clearly want attacking midfielders and wingers after being liked with Daniel James and Wilson.
