Leeds United got the last laugh on former One Direction member and Derby fan Niall Horan after a long-running feud was potentially put to bed after Monday’s play-off finals.

Horan said back in 2018 “No one likes Leeds” to which the Leeds Twitter account replied “No one likes your solo career”.

When Leeds were knocked out of the play-off semi-finals by Derby, Horan kicked things off again tweeting, “Between Derby and I we’ve played at Wembley more times in the last 12 years than you lot”.

However, his day out at Wembley didn’t end in celebration, with Aston Villa winning 2-1 on Monday, and the Leeds Twitter account couldn’t resist putting the boot in tweeting, “Hopefully you performed better than Derby! See you next season! #StopCrying”

OPINION

Leeds have had beef with both teams today but Derby have caused them the most pain this season. They kicked off the spygate scandal and Frank Lampard arguably made the issue much bigger than it needed to be with his reaction. Then, after Leeds had beaten them 3/3 times, they lost in the most important game, the second leg of the play-off semi-finals. After the game the Derby players and Lampard mocked Leeds with “binocular” celebrations, but they fell at the last hurdle and we imagine Leeds fans are going to enjoy their memes on Twitter tonight. The Leeds Twitter account is well known for its brutal put-downs and it’s obviously been waiting for today’s results to put the boot in on Horan again. Derby and Frank Lampard will have to weather the “Don’t cry Frank Lampard” song again next season, presuming that Lampard is still their manager. There’s been talk of him moving to Chelsea but it’s surely too soon in his career for such a massive leap up in class.
