When Leeds United failed to secure a single outfield signing in the January transfer window there were understandably some reservations about how they would get on through the rest of the season.

Fast forward to today and the Whites are licking their wounds at Elland Road, having seen automatic promotion slip through their fingers and the chance of play-off glory extinguished by a marauding Derby County side out for revenge in the semi finals.

With another Championship campaign on the horizon, Leeds have got to look for more quality and talent to try and take them back to the promised land that is the Premier League but finding what they need is a task easier said than done.

While the ill-fated Dan James hunt was the big talking point back in January, the Whites were also linked with Republic of Ireland international Callum O’Dowda at Bristol City, the Times reporting that a £10million price tag scared Marcelo Bielsa’s men off.

The same report claims that the 15-cap ace has been frozen out by Leeds’ fellow Championship side and with a contract that has just a year left on it, it is stated that Bristol City have slashed £4million off his asking price.

At £6million, O’Dowda represents a real bargain in the Championship transfer market and Leeds have got to pounce for a talent who is not going to break the bank.

Creativity up front was something sorely lacking for Bielsa and his men and having a player of O’Dowda’s quality, not to mention potential at just 24-years-old, would help them out immeasurably.

Four goals and five assists is a decent record for someone who has been out of the side since the end of March and with Jack Harrison, who only managed an average of less than one successful dribble and one key attacking pass per game, returning to Manchester City after his loan, there is a gap there for Bielsa to fill.
