Leeds United are ready to challenge already promoted Norwich City for the signature of Wolfsburg starlet Elvis Rexhbecaj according to Bild.

The German publication claim on their website that Leeds are prepared to offer £6.8million for the 21-year-old, with the Canaries also said to be in hot pursuit of the youngster.

Rexhbecaj has enjoyed his first breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, playing 22 times for Wolfsburg, scoring once and also having one assist.

There is also reported interest from German clubs Freiburg and 1. FC Koln.

Good move for Leeds?

Any young player that has impressed would be a good addition to any squad. Rexhbecaj has enjoyed his first full season in the Bundesliga and impressed while doing so.

Bild also report that his market value is only currently £3million so Leeds could be overpaying at the reported price they’re willing to pay.

The Whites’ current midfield consists of Adam Forshaw and Kalvin Phillips with Mateusz Klich in-front of those. Apart from those their aren’t many options for Marcelo Bielsa to rotate in the senior squad so a new addition would definitely make their midfield much stronger.

Likely to happen?

If Norwich’s interest is to be believed than it would be hard for Leeds to complete a deal. Daniel Farke currently has 15 ex-Bundesliga players in his squad and has a preference for German talent throughout his side.

In Bild’s report they also mention that the Wolfsburg starlet would prefer to see out his contract until 2020 but his side may snap up £6.8million for a player in the last year of his deal.

The home comfort could be a big factor and the youngster may want to stay in Germany which would put Koln and Freiburg in the driving seat for his signature.

Leeds’ chances will only get bigger if they manage to get promoted through the play-offs as they will be able to use Premier League football as a big selling point. As it stands, Leeds will be at the back of the queue.
