Iran midfielder Saeid Ezatolahi has been linked with a move to Leeds in the summer, according to the Tasnim News Agency.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder spent last season on loan at Reading but he only played four times at the start of the season before suffering a groin injury that kept him out of action for the rest of the campaign.

He is out of contract at Russian club Rostov and would be available for free this summer.

OPINION

Now that Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed he’s staying for another year, the club can start working on bringing new faces to Elland Road. We think they need at least two or three quality players, with names set to leave the side as well. Ezatolahi is an interesting one. A 28-cap international for Iran, he plays in the defensive midfield position and will be available for free, with wage demands that wouldn’t be sky high. That could possibly lead to Leeds cashing in on Kalvin Phillips, which would leave money for other signings, but we think that Bielsa would want to keep Phillips above all other players. The Iranian news outlet claims that he is a name that won’t be familiar to most Leeds fans but that might not be the case. Ezatolahi played four games in the Championship at the start of last season before suffering an injury that ruled him out for the rest of his loan spell. He made the bench for the last two Reading games and would be fit for the start of next season – something that would be important for Leeds after a disastrous move for an injured Izzy Brown last year.
