OPINION
Bristol City winger Callum O’Dowda is being linked with Leeds again after a January deal failed to materialise. Leeds put all their eggs in one basket in January, for Swansea winger Daniel James, and that deal fell through so late it didn’t give Leeds time to do any other business.
However, with James seemingly homing in on a move to Man United, the Mirror (live transfer blog, 23.25) has reported a new link to the attacker and have claimed that Leeds are set to reignite a move for O’Dowda, who could be available for £6million this summer (source: The Times).
O’Dowda has so far refused to sign a new contract at Ashton Gate and he’s out of contract at the end of next season. He hasn’t played since March which has increased speculation over his future, but manager Lee Johnson has said to the BBC that O’Dowda hasn’t been frozen out. However, he did admit that despite offering O’Dowda what he wants in a new contract, that O’Dowda has refused to commit his future. Johnson has said “the door is always open”.
Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa have been spotted talking about summer targets and it seems like O’Dowda could well be back in their sights.
Leeds fans think he would be a good buy and one pointed out that it would mean a reunion for O’Dowda and Kemar Roofe, who were both at Oxford until the striker made the move to Elland Road in 2016. One fan said he would be an “excellent signing” to replace Harrison, while another said he would be a “pretty sick” signing.
Here are the best reactions to the Leeds interest in O’Dowda:
