COMMENTARY

With the play-offs finally upon Leeds United and Derby County, both Marcelo Bielsa and Frank Lampard would have been looking for their more experienced heads among the squad to stand up and be counted. Unfortunately for the Argentine, Northern Irish international Stuart Dallas had a first 45 minutes to forget, with the Elland Road faithful tearing his performance to shreds. Operating as a makeshift left back, the natural winger was not only lacking in cutting edge when pushing forward but defensively suspect when the Rams had the ball. He was taken advantage of time and again by the home side at Pride Park and it will have had the Leeds supporters dreaming of Ezgjan Alioski – a makeshift full back himself – and Barry Douglas. This just goes to show the lack of squad depth at Bielsa’s disposal and had he been willing to build a bigger squad, maybe the club would be sitting back with automatic promotion under their belt instead of battling it out among the play-offs.
