Leeds United, Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic are in the hunt to sign Portsmouth forward Jamal Lowe, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed via their live transfer blog on Wednesday [03:11pm] that Pompey boss Kenny Jackett is reluctant to let his “star striker” leave Fratton Park in the summer transfer window, but the 24-year-old could be on the move for a fee worth £2million.

Lowe was Portsmouth’s top goalscorer this season as they reached the League One play-offs, scoring 17 goals in all competitions for the south coast club.

Good move for Leeds?

Lowe has been in fantastic form for Portsmouth this season, being involved in 26 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions.

He can score goals and he can create them, and Marcelo Bielsa really could do with the extra depth added to his attack in the summer transfer window.

Lowe can play on both wings or as a centre-forward and considering he could be bought for just £2million, it is a no-brainer for Leeds to step up their efforts and sign the former Barnet attacker.

Likely to happen?

After such a solid campaign in 2018/19, it is no surprise to see a few of next season’s Championship clubs eyeing up the English forward.

Cardiff will no doubt be an attractive option following their relegation from the Premier League while Wigan might be seen as a move where Lowe could guarantee himself more first team football.

Leeds need to resolve Bielsa’s future before making any transfer plans, and hopefully that does not see them fall back in the race for Lowe’s signature.
