Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Portsmouth forward Jamal Lowe this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claims that West Brom and Middlesbrough are also interested in signing the 24-year-old, who is aiming to play in the Championship next season.

Portsmouth were beaten by Sunderland in the League One play-offs this week and it is understood that the wide-forward could now be sold by the south coast club.

Good move for Leeds?

Lowe has enjoyed a very good season with Portsmouth but unfortunately for him, Kenny Jackett’s side fell at the penultimate play-off hurdle in their bid to win promotion to the Championship.

Leeds could do with adding a player like Lowe to their squad because they lack any real strength in depth in their attack.

The London-born attacker has been involved in 26 goals across all competitions this season, scoring 17 and supplying nine assists in 55 appearances.

He could be a good long-term replacement for Pablo Hernandez on the right-hand side of Leeds’ attack but he is also versatile enough to play on the left wing or up front.

Lowe would be a very clever addition to the side by Marcelo Bielsa, if he remains in charge.

Likely to happen?

Leeds have to be concerned about West Brom and Middlesbrough’s interest in Lowe because they are two clubs who are bound to have big summer transfer windows after missing out on promotion.

The Whites will also need to make changes but Bielsa has always seemed very happy with the squad he already has at Elland Road.

He did go after Daniel James in January though and now that a move for the Swansea winger is unlikely to happen, Lowe might be his contingency plan.
