Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney will become the subject of a transfer battle between Napoli and Inter Milan, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog [9:40am] that Tierney’s impressive performances have led to significant interest from the two Serie A heavyweights, who are ready to test the Hoops’ resolve in the summer.

The report says that Brendan Rodgers, now at the helm at Leicester City, would prefer to keep current left-back Ben Chilwell at the club, paving the way for Milan and Napoli to begin a transfer battle for the youngster.

Good move for Celtic?

Definitely not. Tierney has quickly established himself as a core part of the Celtic team over the last two seasons, including putting himself at the forefront of Scotland’s team. It would be a big blow if he was to leave permanently. Celtic need to keep him on their books at all costs, but doing so could prove difficult this summer.

Likely to happen?

Unlikely. Tierney has four years on his contract and will most likely want to honour at least one more season of that deal. Having said that, offers – if they do indeed come in – from Inter Milan and Napoli are not to be sniffed at and could add more speculation to the player’s future. But for now, it would seem that Tierney’s first focus will not be on jumping ship to the Serie A, but recovering from hernia surgery he is set to undergo after the end of the season.
