Joe Worrall will return to Nottingham Forest following his season-long loan at Ibrox and the defender has left a heartfelt message for the Gers on his personal Twitter page

The 22-year-old featured 22 times in the Scottish Premiership last season but came in for criticism from Rangers fans.

However, he thanked Rangers and their fans for his time at the club we imagine most Gers fans will wish him luck now.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to @RangersFC for letting me play for your great club this season. From the fans, staff/players and the city of Glasgow, it has been a fantastic experience and the club has a special place in my heart #WeAreThePeople,” Worrall tweeted.

OPINION

Joe Worrall did not make the impact that Steven Gerrard had hoped and Gerrard must now look to bring in another centre-back in the summer. Worrall looked unsteady and short of confidence for large parts of the season – his catastrophic error at Kilmarnock back in January didn’t help matters and he never really recovered from that moment. The 22-year-old has clearly learned a lot from his experiences in Scotland, though, and he must use these experiences to help him progress in the future. He is still only young and has plenty of time to establish himself as a good defender. Gerrard will continue his Rangers rebuild in the coming months and he must add competition for both Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic if the Gers are to be defensively solid next term.  Celtic are yet to appoint a manager and a successful summer of recruitment could really bolster Rangers’ chances of winning the Premiership title next season.
