Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has congratulated both Tottenham and Liverpool for reaching the Champions League final after Mauricio Pochettino’s side sealed a dramatic late win against Ajax on Wednesday night.

After two of the greatest semi-final fixtures of all time, the Premier League will have two clubs fighting it out in the final for just the second time in the history of the competition.

Arsenal fan Corbyn admits that even he can find it in himself to rave about bitter rivals Spurs for their 3-2 win at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Wednesday to set up a showdown with Liverpool in the final after they beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield the night before.

“Even an Arsenal fan can appreciate the astonishing performances by Liverpool and Tottenham over the last two nights. Two underdogs defying the odds to set up an all English Champions League Final. Congratulations and good luck to both teams in the final,” the politician said via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday night.

Wow. It’s safe to say that English football has peaked this week. On Monday we had Vincent Kompany scoring one of the best goals in Premier League history to take Manchester City top of the table. On Tuesday night, Liverpool overturned a 3-0 deficit to beat Barcelona 4-3 and reach the final. And on Wednesday, Lucas Moura fired a hat-trick as Spurs also overturned a 3-0 aggregate deficit to win on away goals. Hopefully Arsenal and Chelsea can provide something special in the Europa League on Thursday night because we have been absolutely spoiled this week by some truly memorable matches. Tottenham versus Liverpool will be a fantastic final. One of the two best managers in English football will end their run without a trophy at their respective clubs. Liverpool are perhaps the slight favourites right now but Tottenham cannot be written off, especially as it seems like Harry Kane might be fit for the final after the way he ran onto the pitch in Amsterdam at full-time.
