Jermaine Jenas has heaped praise on Everton centre-back Kurt Zouma who he says has been “standout” after a “nightmare” 17/187 season with Stoke.

Zouma helped Everton to another clean sheet in the 2-0 win against Burnley on Friday night that saw Everton move up to eighth in the league.

That’s as far as they’re going to get this season after Wolves beat Fulham on Saturday, but talking on Match of the Day (BBC1, Saturday, 10.30pm), Gary Lineker said only two teams this season have kept more clean sheets than Everton and Jenas said that a lot of that is down to the Chelsea loanee.

“Defensively there have been a couple of standout performers,” Jenas said. “This guy, Kurt Zouma, he’s really fallen into place in regards to Everton now finding some form.

“He’s started the last six games and of those games Everton have kept five clean sheets. They’ve found some continuity in form recently.

“He’s on loan and they key thing is whether they can get him in the summer, but it was a nightmare season for him last season at Stoke.

“From what I’ve seen of him this season Everton will want to keep him.But Chelsea’s transfer embargo could cause problems.”
