Pontus Jansson’s brother has dismissed claims that the Leeds centre-back is planning to leave Elland Road this summer.

He was responding to a Leeds fan who tagged him in a Twitter post saying “Sorry to see Pontus leave”.

Peter Jansson replied saying, “Is he leaving? That is more than I am aware of”.

Another Leeds fan said that he should be used to Pontus rumours as they happen every summer, to which Jansson replied, “True Tony”, adding a fist and a smiley face emojis.

Pontus Jansson broke his silence on Monday almost a week after the defeat in the play-off semi-final to Derby.

He made no mention of leaving but said he was still in shock after the result and thanked the fans for their support.

OPINION

Every summer the ‘Pontus Jansson is leaving’ rumours start up. That was also mentioned by Phil Hay on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road podcast this week. However, Hay also said that Jansson would be one of the three players that Leeds would be under pressure over this summer, along with Kemar Roofe and Kalvin Phillips. Peter is a good source of information on Pontus though. He responds regularly about what his brother is up to and it’s a case of so far, so good for Leeds fans. We imagine that every Leeds player will be waiting, along with fans, to hear whether Marcelo Bielsa is committing himself to another year. That could make a big difference not only to key players staying, but also for attracting new recruits this summer. The news on that is positive so far, too, with Leeds said to be increasingly confident that the maverick manager will commit to another year at Elland Road. Jansson still has three years left on his contract at Leeds.
