Sky Sports host Hayley McQueen has admitted that Celtic captain Scott Brown “petrifies” her.

Ahead of Celtic’s 2-0 defeat to Rangers on Sunday, Brown was pictured by Sky Sports staring down the tunnel at Ibrox as he focused on the upcoming battle against Steven Gerrard’s men.

Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd then responded to McQueen’s claim by saying that the former Scotland international is a completely different character when he’s not on the pitch.

“Steely stare petrifies me, Scott Brown,” she said on Sky Sports Main Event before kick-off on Sunday [11:57am]. “He will be chomping at the bit for this one, won’t he?”

Boyd responded: “Yes he will, but it’s not as scary as it looks. Scott Brown gets a reputation but he’s actually a nice guy away from the football pitch.”

OPINION

Brown’s thousand-yard stare is something that Roy Keane used to do during his days at Manchester United. No shaking hands, no chatting and no signs of weakness in the tunnel. The midfielder was completely focused on the task at hand and clearly his blank stare unnerved McQueen in the studio. It is a shame that Brown then followed up that moment in the tunnel with a completely hopeless performance for the Bhoys as they lost their second Old Firm derby match of the season at Ibrox. Brown wasn’t alone in stinking the place up for Celtic when they lost 2-0 to Rangers however for someone like him, you expect a lot better. He was particularly poor for Scott Arfield’s goal in the second-half. Brown needs to improve before the Scottish Cup final but luckily, Hearts have been woeful in the last few weeks and can be beaten with Celtic in first gear.
