Leeds midfielder Samu Saiz is on the hunt for a new club in Spain after a disappointing loan spell with Getafe, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Getafe had an option to make his move permanent for £6million but they won’t be signing Saiz according to the report, with the 28-year-old looking for another club.

The YEP claims that other Spanish clubs are interested as well as one other country. However, YEP journalist Phil Hay has revealed that Leeds are unlikely to get anywhere near the £6million for the player.

Instead, he said that the “feeling in Spain is that Leeds will do well to get more than £3m” for the player who cost £3.15m from SD Huesca in 2017.

Hay made the claim on Tuesday morning on his personal Twitter account.

If this is what ends up happening then Leeds will either wash their face or lose a small amount of money on a player who sparkled for Leeds and would definitely have fetched £5-£6million in the January window. The manner of his departure meant that Leeds couldn’t work out a permanent deal for him then and that really came back to haunt them as they failed to get a deal for Swansea winger Dan James over the line in a dispute about financing. If a club does take the plunge on Saiz for £3million they’d be taking a gamble on a player who has, for whatever reason, been in the doldrums for the past six months. However, Leeds fans will attest to his talents and if he can rediscover his form then he’d be a real bargain buy. Some Leeds fans are still holding out hope that he’ll come back to Elland Road but the YEP report makes it clear that neither Marcelo Bielsa or the club want him back and they’ll be holding out to get as much money as they can for him. The final fee could make a real impact on how much director of football Victor Orta has to spend this summer.
