Phil Hay has claimed that Pontus Jansson is the most likely Leeds player to be sold this summer.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist was talking on the latest episode of the Square Ball podcast (40mins) and was asked who he thought would be the Leeds player most likely to be sold.

“Bielsa will be insistent that Phillips is staying,” Hay said. “There must be plenty of clubs on the level of Aston Villa and Norwich, who would want him.

“I wonder if this is the window when Jansson goes. I’d wonder if the club would be happy in that he’s done his stint and if there was big money offered then he can leave.

“I wonder if he’s a team player and whether it’s too much about him. I do think he’s a very good centre-back and you would miss what he brings, but if someone is to be sold…”

OPINION

Money is tight and if Leeds want to bring a new striker in they will have to move at least one player on. If it came down to it, we think Leeds fans would prefer to keep Kalvin Phillips, despite their love affair with the Swedish centre-back. There have been rumblings about a falling out with Bielsa and although he is a quality player, it would be easier for Leeds to replace him. Another option for a striker would be to move on Kiko Casilla. He’s on a reported £30,000-a-week and Leeds could use that money to fund the wages for a 20-25 goal loanee, someone like Dwight Gayle. He was loaned to West Brom last season and could be up for another move this summer. Jack Clarke is the other player who has been strongly linked with a move away this summer. Tottenham are reported to be very interested and if that came to fruition, a loan back to Leeds would be the absolute win-win outcome.
