Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru has confirmed that Galatasaray are interested in keeping him on board past the summer after his temporary stay in Turkey.

The 21-year-old is enjoying his second loan spell since joining Everton in 2017 from Belgian side KAS Eupen, having yet appeared for the Goodison Park outfit in a competitive outing.

Speaking ahead of the summer transfer window, he revealed that the Turkish side were keen on extending his stay but that his agent would make that decision on his behalf.

Nine cap Nigerian international Onyekuru is quoted by Football Live as saying: “Yes, I can’t discuss anything contract, for now, I am still a player of Everton, I want to stay focus to finish the season in a good note, before sitting on a round table with Everton and my agent to discuss where my future lies.

It is true, Galatasaray wants me to stay back, that decision rests on to my agent. Mine is to play football, while my agent is to take decisions regarding the positive move for me in my career, as for now, I remain a player of Everton.”

Onyekuru has been involved in 19 goals in his 40 appearances in Turkey and his Galatasaray side are currently sitting top of the table.

Good move for Everton?

Everton would have had big plans for Onyekuru when he first joined in 2017 but they have failed to materialise after failing to secure a work permit.

With this being said, the season long loan stint in Turkey could leave the Premier League club hoping that the permit problem could be resolved.

If not, then this move would be perfect for Everton, they could clear out a space in their squad and try to secure some of the fee they spent on him. Having said this, they would end up losing a young prospect who already boasts international experience.

Likely to Happen?

The FootballLive report claims that Galatasaray are ready to double the 21-year-olds wages in order to keep him at the club.

Should this be the case then it would be very hard for Onyekuru to reject that.

The Turkish club have given the Nigerian the consistent football he wants and he even admits, he knows of their early intentions before the summer window.

The move all depends on whether on not Everton would be able to secure a work permit for the youngster and if not, Galatasaray will be the lead club in trying to secure his signature.
