Barry Ferguson has claimed that Rangers should consider offloading Alfredo Morelos for a fee worth around £8million.

Morelos, 22, has been linked with leaving Ibrox ever since last January and his future is bound to be a widely-discussed topic again in the summer with Marca reporting earlier this month that Real Betis and Marseille are keen on the Colombia international.

Ferguson believes that £8million should be considered by Rangers if an offer of that much is tabled to them in the summer.

And the ex-Gers player really doesn’t expect Morelos to still be at Ibrox by the time next season starts.

“It looks that way to me,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer [12m59s] when asked if he thinks Morelos will leave in the summer. “If Rangers get a decent offer in they’ve got to seriously consider it, whether it’s around about the £8million mark.

“I’ve seen that Steven Gerrard had mentioned there’s only ever been one offer in for him.

“That offer’s got to come in and Rangers need to sit down and discuss that, but if you’re asking me, I don’t think he will be [there next season].

“I think if an offer comes in I think Rangers will take it.”

OPINION

Rangers should be able to get more than £8million for Morelos – even Chris Sutton thinks so. Forget about Morelos’ discipline record this season for one moment and consider the fact that he has scored 47 goals in 90 appearances across the last two seasons. In those seasons he hasn’t been injured and is averaging more than a goal every other game, despite nearing his 100th outing as a Gers player. Those stats are incredible and a far better than what Moussa Dembele achieved at Celtic. Dembele missed more games than Morelos due to injury and what would you rather have? An injury-prone striker or one that gets sent off every now and then? It’s a no-brainer really and that should mean that Morelos is worth around what Lyon paid for Dembele last summer. Scottish football clubs need to stop undervaluing their players and it doesn’t help when pundits like Ferguson are wide of the mark when discussing potential fees.
