Everton have been offered the chance to sign Marseille midfielder Kevin Strootman on loan, according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that the 29-year-old has also been touted to Manchester United as Marseille aim to slash their spending after a poor season in Ligue 1.

Marseille bought Strootman from Roma for £23million last summer, but the Dutch central midfielder only managed to start 20 league matches for the French side this season.

Good move for Everton?

Strootman is not the kind of player that Everton should be looking to sign this summer.

Marco Silva and Marcel Brands should be pushing the boat out to sign Andre Gomes on a permanent basis before looking at players like Strootman, who has been plagued by injuries in the last few years of his career and has not been in the best of form at Marseille.

Although the Ligue 1 club wants to cut their spending, it is not a good sign that Strootman is being offered out.

Would a club be offering a good player to cut costs? Or would they be banking on those players to help them improve next season?

It seems as though Marseille want to get rid of someone who has clearly been a bad investment for them.

Likely to happen?

Everton will more than likely see if they can sign Gomes first because he is a similar type of player to Strootman except he is young and nowhere near as injury-prone.

It is hard to see the Toffees wanting to sign Strootman when he is being offered to them as well simply because of the bad signs that something like that gives off.
