Greg Docherty has had an outstanding season at Shrewsbury Town.

The Scot has hit 10 goals in 49 appearances, as well as providing 11 assists, from midfield for the League One outfit this campaign, and must surely think that he has a chance of impressing Steven Gerrard when he returns to Ibrox in the summer.

If there was any doubt over the level of his performance so far this term, his haul at Town’s annual award ceremony should be enough to convince people that he is the real deal.

Docherty scooped three gongs – the Family Stand Player of The Year, the Away Travel Club Player of The Year and the OSC Player of The Year, as reported by the Scottish Sun, and it is the least he deserves for a truly stellar campaign.

At 22, he is at a point inn his career where he has to be playing first team football, and the fact that he has realised this and has gone in search of regular opportunities, instead of just waiting around in the Ibrox reserves, is a great reflection of his desire and hunger as a player.

If there are two traits that Steven Gerrard values in a player, it will be those, and by going out and doing things the hard way, Docherty has proven that he has what it takes to kick on and make a name for himself at Ibrox.

He will have no doubt enjoyed his time in England, but now it is time that he goes back north and proves what he can do for the Gers.
