Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren insists that the Reds will only get better after losing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City and that they have improved under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds will play their second successive Champions League final against Tottenham in Madrid on June 1 and have the chance to become winners of the competition for a sixth time.

Lovren has been with the club since Jurgen Klopp first arrived in 2015 and has been part of a Liverpool side that has become stronger under the German’s tutelage.

The Croatian defender insists that the Reds have only got better under Klopp and that the progression is there for everyone to see.

“When you look back on the last three years, it was every season improvement,” Lovren told Liverpoolfc.com.

“When Klopp came, every year we did better and better. Last season we did quite well, we had quite a lot of injuries and reached the final of the Champions League.

“This year, with the new players, we reached second place with 97 points, it’s incredible, and again the final of the Champions League so definitely we are one of the contenders for next year to do something great. With this team, we can only improve.”

OPINION

Jurgen Klopp has done a tremendous job as Liverpool boss. The Reds have been a joy to watch this season and to think that they missed out on the Premier League title with 97 points is simply astonishing. Lovren has the chance to become a Champions League winner next month and given just how good Liverpool have been this season, they deserve European silverware. Reaching Back-to-back Champions League finals is a special achievement and the turnaround against Barcelona was nothing short of a miracle given that Liverpool were without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Liverpool will be title contenders again in the Premier League next term and Manchester City will have to be at their glorious best to stave off Liverpool’s title charge.  If Liverpool are able to add another striker to their ranks in the summer they could go one better and topple the champions. Divock Origi, Firmino and Daniel Sturridge are the club’s three senior strikers and another quality addition could be just what they need.
