West Brom would have to pay £1.5million to hire Lincoln boss Danny Cowley as their next boss, according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Sunday that it would take a seven-figure fee to hire Cowley, 40, and his brother Nicky, who is the assistant manager at Sincil Bank.

It is understood that fee could see West Brom and Middlesbrough end their interest in the former Braintree boss.

OPINION

There is no way that West Brom would spend that kind of money on compensation to hire Cowley where there are other managers out there who are currently unemployed. It is a blow for the Baggies because Cowley is just the man that they need at The Hawthorns as they aim to return to the Premier League. Cowley has won two promotions in three seasons at Lincoln and has also won the EFL Trophy and reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup while the Imps were still a non-league club. Press Association reporter Nick Mashiter has previously reported that it would cost £500,000 to hire Cowley, but to see that compensation fee triple is bound to stop Mark Jenkins and Luke Dowling from making a move for the 40-year-old, who is unlikely to leave Sincil Bank without his brother Nicky, who has been there every step of the way in his managerial career so far.
