There wasn’t a whole lot for Manchester City fans to complain about on Saturday afternoon. A 6-0 demolition of Watford in the FA Cup final was enough to ensure that they picked up a domestic treble to cap off a truly remarkable campaign, and all the evidence would suggest that their dominance shows no sign of letting up any time soon. This was a truly imperious display from a team who have redefined what success means in the English game. And yet, some fans still found time to call out one perceived weak link in the side. Many were not happy with the performance of Kyle Walker. The 28-year-old England international was a source of frustration in amongst a marvellous outing for the Blues. Granted, he has pace to burn, and certainly there are worse defenders out there, but when the standards are as high as the ones City set, any lapse is bound to stick out like a sore thumb. There are times when it feels as if Walker just gets his head down and doesn’t really have any idea of what he plans to do when he gets to the end of one of his driving forays forward. He is by no means a bad player, but equally, you wonder whether he possesses the same kind of footballing brain as some of his teammates. He’ll do for now, but is he really the long term answer to City’s full-back question? Perhaps not.
