Leeds United’s sole focus right now is making it to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs – and rightly so.

There is absolutely nothing else that matter either on or off the pitch, for making it back to the top flight would transform the club’s fortunes for the better.

After years of playing in the Football League, the Elland Road faithful must feel as though it is time their sleeping giant of a club awoke to make their mark on English football again and in Marcelo Bielsa they have found a manager who has provided the spark which almost took them to automatic promotion.

Once the season is over you can imagine that the attention will turn to the future of the Argentine, who signed a one year deal with an option to extend his stay for another 12 months – something Leeds are looking to trigger.

However, as club owner Andrea Radrizzani admits it takes two to tango and they need Bielsa to feel confident that they have more to offer him just as he has more to offer the club.

Speaking about how things are behind the scenes, the Italian told the Times: “Every time I’ve spoken to Marcelo he has expressed his intention to continue with the job, whatever happens. He has already started working on next season, improving the facilities and integrating players from our under-23 squad.

“All the signs are that he wants to continue. The club have an option for another year of contract which we intend to take up, but in every relationship you need desire from both parties. The desire is there and at the right moment we will finalise things.”

With Bielsa all but certain to stay on board, Radrizzani’s reveal will surely be music to the ears of nearly every Leeds fan out there.

He has been the catalyst to reignite Leeds’ fire and take them to the brink of promotion – keeping him on board is priority number two right now and it seems all is set for that to happen.
