West Bromwich Albion are weighing up an attempt to lure Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill back into club management, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claim that the international boss is on West Brom’s shortlist of managers for the permanent role at The Hawthorns alongside Charlton manager Lee Bowyer.

The Sun report Bowyer has impressed people by leading Charlton to the League One play-offs in his rookie season as a manager, but that O’Neill is viewed as someone who’d bring more experience to the table.

OPINION

West Brom don’t seem to know what they want from a manager. O’Neill and Bowyer are very different so it seems the Baggies are yet to settle on what they exactly want from their new boss. Do the Baggies want someone experienced to guide them back to the Premier League or do they want to gamble on someone a little less proven who may need more time, they just don’t seem to know based on this report. While The Sun’s report makes it seems like O’Neill is the more likely of the two to be employed, it wouldn’t be a surprise if neither rocked up at The Hawthorns. Both seem happy in their current jobs and it’s hard to imagine them throwing that away. This is especially the case with Bowyer as he could end up managing a Championship side in the form of Charlton if they get promoted, and you feel he will repay their faith in him by sticking around.
