Leeds want to sign Bolton midfielder Luca Connell, according to the Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon.

He claims that the 18-year-old, who has broken through into the first-team this season, will be offered a ‘decent contract too’ by Leeds.

They could have a clear route to signing him as he added that Brighton have “backed out of chase”.

Connell is out of contract in the summer and Leeds would only have to pay a compensation fee for the player.

Nixon made the claim on his personal Twitter on Sunday morning.

Paul Joyce from the Times had previously reported that Tottenham, Brighton and Southampton all wanted to sign Connell on deadline day in January.

Good move for Leeds?

Connell has made 10 appearances in the Championship for the cash-strapped side and he would seem like a perfect player for Leeds. He’s young, has experience in the Championship and is available at a good price. With Tottenham after him in January, it shows that clubs think he’s got what it takes to play in the Premier League. Leeds took a step closer to the Premier League on Saturday when they beat Derby 1-0 at Pride Park but they’re going to need reinforcements whatever division they end up in. And money will be tight too. Leeds narrowly missed out on one exciting youngster in Dan James in January and he might well be out of their reach now. Connell would be a great signing for the club in a summer that’s set to be exciting.

Likely to happen?

There’s not many better clubs to go to as a young player at the moment. Possibly Tottenham, but it’s yet to be confirmed if they’re going to come back into the chase for the talented youngster. They made their move on deadline day last window and it’s likely that they could come calling again as they look to spend this summer. Leeds would offer him a much clearer route into the first-team though.
