Danny Mills has claimed that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is “without doubt” good enough to earn himself a move to the Premier League this summer.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar campaign for United, and Mills is convinced that he is destined for big things.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Without doubt, Phillips is good enough for the Premier League.

“Can he play? Yes. Is he a good defensive midfielder? Yes. Does he have the potential to improve? Yes.

“I don’t want him to leave Leeds but if I was in charge of a Premier League club in the bottom half of the table I would be looking at him.”

OPINION

This is what Leeds fans will have been fearing all season. Their side has enjoyed such a fantastic campaign that many of their top players will have caught the eye of clubs above them in the footballing pyramid, but now that they have fallen at the last and failed to make it out of the Championship, you would expect a lot of those players to have their head turned by offers from the top flight. If Leeds had gone up, they would have been a much stronger position to resist those advances, but as it is, with another year in the second tier looming, they could well be picked down to the bone. A large factor on whether or not that happens will surely be if Marcelo Bielsa denies to walk away or not. If the Argentine stays it will make it a lot harder for some of his squad to leave. If Bielsa does go, however, and if that triggers some kind of exodus, then you would have to worry for Leeds’ chances of replicating their promotion push next time around.
