Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has said Marcelo Bielsa signing for another year at Leeds is “great news” and that he thinks it means that Leeds will bring in at least two-three new players over the summer.

Leeds confirmed the news about Bielsa on Tuesday morning after intense and involving talks between the two sides.

And Mills, talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Tuesday, midday) thinks that Bielsa will have been satisfied about new recruits.

“It’s great news,” Mills said. “I think it came down to transfer targets and Radrizzani’s pockets aren’t maybe as deep as we thought they would be.

“For what he’s done with a limited squad, you couldn’t ask him to do the same again with the same players and tie one hand behind his back and I think they’ll have to add 2-3 players. And I think the talks would have been all about that.

“I think they need a goal-scorer, a keeper – they might need one of those. But they’re not a million miles away.”

OPINION

Brilliant news for Leeds and Mills knows how big it is. After the disappointment of missing out on the play-offs and the comments from owner Andrea Radrizzani that this could be a tough summer, this is exactly what the club need to spend the summer on a high. The fans are buzzing and already thinking about next season. The summer will be tough and there’s not going to be a lot of money, but Leeds can still bring in quality new players if they’re creative. They can make maybe better use of the loan system than they did last summer – and managers might be more ready to trust Bielsa with their players after the football he played last campaign. There are also players they could move on that would free cash up, including goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, who is reportedly on £30k-a-week. A goal-scorer and another winger would be the minimum, and a new keeper if Casilla does go. That should give Leeds every chance of promotion next season.
