Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich has delivered an emotional Twitter message to Leeds fans after the 4-2 defeat in the play-off semi-final against Derby on Wednesday night.

That condemned Leeds to another season in the Championship and Klich sent a message with a broken-hearted emoji saying, “Can’t describe how bad it feels today. We have tried. We have failed. We will not give up.”

Klich also praised the Leeds fans adding, “Thank you for amazing support this season, you were unbelievable.”

OPINION

This will pretty much be how every single Leeds player is feeling today. After working all season and being on the brink of promotion, losing to Derby at home after winning the away leg and beating Frank Lampard’s in all three games before that, will really hurt. Ultimately, though, it shows how unfair the play-offs can be. Leagues are decided over the course of 38 matches and Leeds proved they were the third best team in the Championship. They deserved to go up but you can’t blame anyone for losing in the lottery of the play-offs. Promotion was really lost over the Easter weekend with defeats against both Wigan and Brentford. It will be fascinating to see if Marcelo Bielsa stays for another season and if he does what new players are brought in over the summer. Money will be tight and we’ll be expecting Leeds to look to the loan market as well as bringing in more young players.
