Leeds United appear to have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Jamal Lowe as he has hinted that he may be staying at Portsmouth next season.

The Portsmouth winger was linked with a move to the Championship side earlier this month by Sky Sports, however his latest remarks appear to suggest he is going nowhere.

In an interview with Portsmouth News, Lowe said: “I felt I could’ve done more last season and I felt the same this season,

“But that’s what the next season is for – to try to better the last one.

“We had a nice FA Cup run with some replays and won the Checkatrade. It is what it is. We’ve got a big squad so I’m not going to blame it on that.

“But we’re not going to put it down to that. We just have to go again.”

The 24-year old has been involved in 119 games for Portsmouth since his arrival from Hampton & Richmond Borough back in January 2017, and has managed to net 17 goals and register a further nine assists in all competitions this season.

However, from his latest statements, it seems like the winger may be looking to continue playing his football with Pompey, in favour of a reported step up to Championship level.

Leeds may be on the look-out for extra attacking options in the lead up to the new season, and Lowe could have been the man to make the switch to Elland Road in the summer.

It could be argued that the 24-year old would do a better job than like likes of Patrick Bamford, who only managed to register nine goals and two assists in the Championship this season, however it seems we may never know now as Lowe has given the hint that he will be playing his football at Fratton Park next season.

The question remains as to whether Lowe would be able to comfortably make the step up to the Championship should the move have come to fruition, however there is no doubting his talent, and it may have been a smart move for Marcelo Bielsa to bring him in and try him out.

Either way, it is now looking increasingly likely that the 24-year old will be staying with Portsmouth as the new season approaches.
