Leeds United won’t be resurrecting a deal for former CSKA Moscow striker Abel Hernandez, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay.
Leeds were “locked in talks” over a move for the former Hull City striker last summer, according to the YEP, and tabled a lucrative offer for the player who was on £40k-a-week.
He ended up moving to CSKA Moscow on a free transfer but flopped dramatically, scoring just three goals in 15 appearances and the Russian club announced Hernandez had left the club on Monday.

That led to a Leeds fan asking Phil Hay whether Leeds would go back in for him.
Hay responded in definitive fashion tweeting a one-word response: “No”.

OPINION
That clears that one up and it looks like Leeds dodged a bullet after tabling what was reported as a “lucrative” offer for Hernandez when he was at Hull. It was one of the longest-running stories for Leeds last summer but the wages were always likely to be an issue. However, he has had a disaster of a season after signing a three-year deal with CSKA with just three goals proving enough for his contract to be terminated. Hernandez will be on the lookout for a new club, and with 11 goals in 29 games for Uruguay and at the age of 28, he could prove to be a bargain for someone, but that won’t be Leeds by the sounds of it. Money is tight at Elland Road at the moment and they’re not about to take a risk on a player out of form and who would still command pretty hefty wages. He was reportedly on £40k-a-week at Hull and was looking for more than that to sign as a free agent last summer. No doubt he’ll have to readjust those demands now but Leeds won’t be interested. Phil Hay is very rarely wrong when it comes to Leeds transfers.
