Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts has undergone a minor operation after missing the final three games of the season, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, on his personal Twitter account, put Leeds’ fans minds at ease after it was suggested Roberts missed out on the Wales squad because of a summer operation on his minor knee injury. Hay simply responded to the speculation: “Very minor procedure on his knee. Had it last week I think”.

Roberts, 20, missed out on Ryan Giggs’ squad after becoming a consistent member of the Welsh squad since his debut last September.

The young forward enjoyed his first breakout season under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, making 28 appearances and being involved in nine goals which nearly saw his side promoted to the Premier League.

OPINION

This move to complete the minor procedure on Tyler Roberts was the best move possible for the youngster. Although missing out on the Welsh squad will be a disappointment for the 20-year-old, it will only benefit him in the long run. Having it done so soon after the seasons close, it will give Roberts every chance to move past it and come back even better next season for another push at promotion at Leeds. Should he recover quickly in his time off, it will give him every chance to prove he is ready to become a mainstay under Bielsa. He will need to be fully fit to do that though, with the Argentine already showing how tough his pre-seasons can be and being fully fit is the only way he will get through. Roberts has definitely proved he can perform at the highest level with Leeds, who will have surely have missed the starlet in their play-off defeat to Derby. His fast feet and pace are an asset to any side and this news can only be positive for everyone involved.
