Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish will be telling Tammy Abraham that he was right if the Villans beat Derby County in the Championship play-off final.

The Villans playmaker shared that when Abraham was injured, he told the forward everything would be fine once he returned from injury.

Grealish admitted he was just talking rubbish but pointed out once he was back in the team, the Villans luckily won the next ten games on the bounce.

The Villans captain admitted that Abraham hadn’t spoken to him about it since, but if the club won at Wembley he’d be saying seven-words to his teammate by saying “I told you we’d be all right!”

“When Tammy was injured, I said to him, ‘Listen to your uncle Jack. When I’m back, it will all change’,” said Grealish, as quoted by The Sun.

“I was just talking utter rubbish — I didn’t know if it really would.

“Luckily, we won the next 10 games on the spin.

“Tammy’s not said anything about it to me since then. But if we win at Wembley, it will be, ‘I told you we’d be all right!’.”

OPINION

Grealish normally seems to ooze confidence but based on what he said above sometimes he fakes it until he makes it. The Aston Villa midfielder is clearly confident in his ability but even he couldn’t guarantee that his return from injury would transform the form of Dean Smith’s side. Grealish missed several games due to injury yet when he returned to action against Derby in March, he looked like he hadn’t missed a step. The 23-year-old’s creativity has been the catalyst for the Villans reaching the play-off finals as if he didn’t return when he did, the Villans looked like they wouldn’t even finish in the top-six. While Grealish is ready to tell Abraham he knew the Villans would reach the Premier League this season when all looked lost, the Villans attacker may not even remember the 23-year-old being so confident. Abraham at that time was injured, just like Grealish mentioned, and was no doubt more concerned about how much game time he could potentially miss.
