West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady slammed Leeds United attacker Patrick Bamford ahead of the Whites facing Derby County in the Championship play-offs semi-final.

The businesswoman claimed that Bamford should have been handed a longer ban than the two-match suspension that he received for feigning injury in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

Brady highlighted that Bamford collapsed in a heap with no Villa player near him and that he should be ashamed of his acting.

“Worst sight of the season was Leeds striker Patrick Bamford collapsing in a pain-riddled heap with no Villa player near him,” wrote Brady for her column in The Sun.

“He should be ashamed of his acting. A two-match ban wasn’t enough.”

OPINION

Brady is probably not alone in having wanted Bamford to be banned for longer as his actions against the Villans were inexcusable, however he has been handed his punishment so that should be the end of it. The Hammers vice-chairman seems to be the last person to wade in on the debate against Bamford and she perhaps waited a little too long to have her say. Then again if she truly thinks it’s the worst sight of the season, maybe she is going to keep bringing it up in her end of season reviews that are bound to happen in her column. However if she is opting to call out the ban on Bamford for not being long enough, surely she should have mentioned Conor Hourihane? The Aston Villa midfielder appeared to punch Leeds’ Mateusz Klich but escaped any form of punishment. While Bamford’s actions made the headlines and were inexcusable, at least justice was served with him. Can the same be said about Hourihane?
