Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has given the thumbs up to the sale of midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the Whites are set to get rid of the Japan international this summer, with the player having never featured for the club.

Bielsa has held extensive discussions with the Leeds hierarchy about potential summer transfers, with Ideguchi’s exit being lined up with an eye to securing a significant fee for the 22-year-old.

Ideguchi has been on loan at German second division side Greuther Furth this term, but has been limited to just seven first team appearances due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Good move for Leeds?

It certainly seems about time for Ideguchi to move on. He simply hasn’t made any sort of impact at Leeds – not that he’s really been given the chance to – and so it makes sense to try and offload him this summer.

If the club can secure a decent fee for him, which they should be able to given his youth and the three years left on his contract, then there’s no reason why they shouldn’t give him the boot this off season. When you’ve never played for the club it’s hard to justify your continued inclusion as a member of the playing squad.

If the Japan star had gone and made a huge impact on loan this season then perhaps he could have returned to a squad place at Elland Road, but he wasn’t able to do that. Obviously injury was the big reason why, but he’s still produced little to suggest that he should be kept around.

Likely to happen?

If Leeds make a concerted effort to shift the midfielder this summer then it’s surely highly likely that he will leave the club. He’s clearly not wanted in Yorkshire, so it’s best for him, as well, if he moves on.
