Celtic have joined the race to sign West Brom starlet Rekeem Harper with the player and his representatives attending Celtic’s win over Hearts last Sunday, according to The Daily Record.

Harper is out of contract this summer and it is understood that interim boss Neil Lennon watched the midfielder during their play-off defeat to Aston Villa on May 14.

The 19-year-old is also attracting interest in England though with Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City both monitoring his contract situation.

Due to his age, a club will have to pay a compensation package if they are to land the youngster.

The England Under 19 international has been offered a new deal at The Hawthorns but he is said to be assessing his options.

Good move for Celtic?

Harper would be a smart addition for the Hoops given his age and potential. In a West Brom side that was chasing promotion, he made 23 league appearances which is an indicator of how much the Baggies rate the teenager. His pace and ability to beat a man would be welcomed at Celtic Park and he would give the new manager, whoever that may be, a decent option. Harper is still only 19-years-old and with that in mind, he still needs to fully develop. He could turn out to be a star in years to come, though, and there is no doubt that his market value could absolutely rocket in years to come. This would be a tidy piece of business.

Likely to happen?

Harper has already visited Celtic Park with his representatives – and that indicates he could be keen on a move. The player is weighing up his options and with competition from the likes of Spurs and Norwich, he may have a difficult decision to make. The clock is ticking though and with his deal set to expire in the summer, he needs to make his mind up. Celtic are definitely in the hunt.
