Celtic have asked Emilio Izaguirre for intel on his Honduras team-mate Albert Elis, the Hoops left-back has confirmed.

Elis, 23, has been in red-hot form for Houston Dynamo this year with the forward scoring four goals and supplying five assists in eight MLS appearances.

Reliable news outlet Football Insider reported in January that the Bhoys had been in the hunt to sign the £5million-rated Honduras international, as well as English Championship side West Brom.

And it seems as though Celtic are keen to know as much as they can about Elis with Izaguirre revealing that he has been approached for information about the reported Parkhead transfer target.

“Celtic have asked me about a few players from Honduras,” the left-back said, as quoted by Football Scotland.

“They’ve asked me several times about Elis. Who knows? Maybe one day they will sign players from Honduras like me.

“Honduras has some very good players, but the professional part of things is sometimes missing.

“Here at Celtic, here you have to forget everything else and be a professional for 24/7 and when you play in matches, you give everything.”

OPINION

Elis is a very highly-rated player in North America and is someone who Celtic should definitely try to sign. Izaguirre will have no doubt told the Bhoys that the wide-forward would be a good addition to the squad at Parkhead but at the end of the day, what matters most is who is going to be in charge of the Scottish champions next season and whether or not they want to sign the jet-heeled Honduran. Elis is still quite a young player and with him reportedly valued at just £5million, Celtic should be able to sign him and eventually make a profit on him in the future if he ends up moving on after a successful stint. One issue is that Elis is primarily a right-sided winger and James Forrest has that position in the Celtic squad locked down for years to come after two seriously impressive seasons by the Scotland international. If Elis can adapt to playing more on the left then he is someone who could fit in well at Celtic Park.
