Celtic are readying a £1.2million bid for Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper says that the Hoops are interested in bringing the 19-year-old – who impressed in his breakthrough season in the Premiership – to Parkhead this summer.

Turnbull netted 16 goals and provided seven assists in 34 appearances in all competitions for Motherwell, leading to him being named the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Scottish Player of the Year.

The Daily Mail adds, however, that Celtic will face competition from Brighton & Hove Albion, who are also keen on the player.

Good move for Celtic?

This would be a fantastic move. While £1.2million is a sizeable outlay for Celtic – especially for a 19-year-old – all the signs suggest that he would be worth the price. Turnbull has been immense in his first season, with one statistic – that he had 23 goal contributions for the season – summing that up perfectly. The midfielder would fit right in at Celtic as a player who can not only chip in with goals as an attacking midfielder, but lay on goals for teammates. And at just 19, he will only get better and better. The price of £1.2million could turn out to be a steal if the Hoops can land him,

Likely to happen?

If Brighton want Turnbull too, there is a chance the player could fancy a move to the Premier League. At his age, you would not rule it out. Plus, Brighton would be able to offer more money which could see them win the race for his signature. Not only that, but if he did move to the south coast, there is every chance a club like Brighton would give him significant game time next term given his quality, and that could prove too much of an opportunity to turn down.
