Celtic could make a swoop to sign Iran left-back Milad Mohammadi in the next transfer window, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet claims that the 26-year-old’s deal with Russian side Akhmat Grozny expires in the summer and the Bhoys are interested in signing the left-back as Emilio Izaguirre’s deal at Parkhead is due to end.

It is understood that Fulham and Bristol City are also in the hunt to sign Mohammadi, who went viral at the World Cup in Russia last year for a failed attempt at an acrobatic throw-in.

Good move for Celtic?

Izaguirre has done little to impress in his second spell at Celtic Park and with Kieran Tierney so prone to injuries, Celtic need a very strong back-up left-back.

Mohammadi, away from his bizarre throw-in attempt, did well for Iran at the 2018 World Cup and has since played regularly in Russia’s top-flight for Akhmat Grozny.

The 25-times Iran international is a very attack-minded left-back who would definitely shine in Scottish football when playing against some of the lesser sides in the Premiership.

However there have to be worries about whether or not he is defensively strong enough to play against some of the better teams in Scotland or in the Champions League.

Mohammadi will be available for free though and signing him could mean that the Hoops will have more money to spend on strengthening other areas of the squad.

Likely to happen?

Celtic have reportedly been interested in signing Mohammadi in each of the last two transfer windows and as his contract expires in the summer, there is certainly a good chance that the Scottish giants will table an offer for the left-back in the coming months.

Bristol City and Fulham’s interest is a concern though because even though they are both likely to be playing in the Championship next term, the promise of a promotion fight to the Premier League could sway his decision.
