West Ham United striker Andy Carroll will be allowed to continue to train at the team’s Rush Green training ground after his contract expires, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the 30-year-old will be allowed to continue training with the team despite having zero chance of getting a new deal.

However, his constant struggles with injuries over the years mean that he has little chance of finding a new club in short order.

Therefore, to keep his fitness up while he searches for fresh employment, the Hammers will grant the England international full use of their training facilities.

OPINION

This is nice of West Ham to do, showing that they’re clearly fond of Carroll despite his numerous injuries and ultimate massive waste of wages over the years. That’s not necessarily his fault, though, and he’s clearly going to have to work hard to prove himself over the summer in order to win a contract at a new club. It’s time for him to leave the Hammers and everyone realises that, but he’s still going to need to stay fit if he’s ever going to find a new team. Obviously it will be difficult for him to secure a deal on anything like the terms he’s been used to at Liverpool and West Ham, but either way he’s going to have to show that he’s fit and healthy if he’s to move on somewhere else. The east London club are giving him the chance to do that, and credit to them for that. There’s no way he should be getting a new Hammers deal, but if the club can help him get on his feet somewhere else then they’re clearly happy to do that.
