Liverpool mad Jamie Carragher has sent an early-morning Twitter message to former Man United player Gary Neville after Liverpool’s incredible 4-0 win against Barcelona.

Two goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and two from Divock Origi saw Liverpool complete an unlikely comeback that sees them through to the Champions League final at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on June 1.

Carragher couldn’t help himself as he sent a message to Neville saying, “Come to Madrid with me in our Red Van!”

Asked why he was still awake at 5.45am he said, “Been waiting all night for Gary Neville to wake up and realise it wasn’t all a dream!”

OPINION

Poor Neville and poor Man United fans in general. It’s been another bad season at Old Trafford, with only Europa football to look forward to next season. And now there’s a very real chance that Liverpool will win the Champions League and a certainty that one of Liverpool or Man City are winning the Premier League. Last night’s game was absolutely incredible. No one really gave Liverpool a chance, apart from Mohamed Salah in his “Never give up” t-shirt. The fact that he was on the sidelines with Roberto Firmino, with Origi up front, meant that Liverpool had to complete the greatest comeback in their history with a weakened team. But they did it and without having to go through extra time. Barcelona’s travelling fans were stunned and the atmosphere at Anfield was simply electric, both during the game and for a long time afterwards. It was a special, special night in Liverpool. Now, can Tottenham make it an all-English final when they take on Ajax in Amsterdam tonight?
